Zhang Daqian (May 10, 1899- April 2, 1983), born in Neijiang City, Sichuan Province, was originally named Zhengquan but later changed his name to Yuan, with the courtesy name Ji Yuan and the courtesy name Da Qian. He was also known as Da Qian Ju Shi or Xia Li Gang Ren, and was a modern Chinese painter. In the 1950s, Zhang Daqian traveled the world and gained a huge international reputation. He was praised by the Western art world as the "brush of the East" and was also known as the "painter who copied the most famous paintings in the world".
