Description

In August 1962, Marilyn Monroe died, and Andy Warhol began to create screen printing works with her as the theme. In 1964, Warhol produced five Marilyn Monroe portrait prints with red, orange, light blue, sage blue and turquoise as the background.

Shortly after the completion of the work, American performance artist Dorothy Podber visited his studio and asked if he could "shoot them". He thought it meant shooting, but he agreed. Unexpectedly, she pulled out a pistol instead of a camera and fired four shots at the painting, giving birth to the name 'shooting'. Only the green pine color of the five different color paintings escaped one disaster, while the other four were all damaged, but they became even more famous as a result.
