Description
In 1951, David Solinger visited the studio of Alberto Giacometti and witnessed this powerful sculpture for the first time. A few months later, he purchased it from the artist's agent, the Marge Gallery in Paris.
The Three Walking Men (Big Platform) was conceived in 1949 and is one of the earliest works of Giacometti's famous group portraits.
This work is very unique and one of the few hand-painted and colored works by artists. The hand-painted quality on its surface is quite exquisite, from the dark hair of every man to the green and gold details inside, to the furry gray green marks on the platform above the deep red base. Most of the works with such outstanding details are now in museum collections, and a few have been auctioned and have set multiple auction records for Giacometti's works.
This Bronze sculpture is the first time to appear on the scene, which is really rare. Other Three Walking Men (Big Platform) are currently collected by important institutions all over the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm, the Louis Vuitton Art Foundation and the Giacometti Foundation in Paris.
